Excellent source of comedy and dramatic material!

If you are an aspiring actor you must read this book and you will go back to it a thousand times. Frank has a unique, ralaxed way of teaching and writing. After you read his book I'm sure you will wish you could attend his classes. I said an aspiring actor because I am one, but I really mean anyone can and will learn a great deal from this book. Don't wait. You will be many steps closer to succes with the use of this great book.

I have read many monologue compilations, but this one is excellent! The material is relevant and very good. I also loved the characters. Plus all of the pieces can be done together as a single work. Very cool book. I'd give it an A+ for originality.

A great study for would be actors or comedians of any type, highly recommended, November 13, 2008

A monologue makes the speaker the sole star - no other people, no props, it's all on their own skill. "Art of the Monologue Monologues They Haven't Heard Yet" is a guide to the art form and how to do it well. Ranging from an acting monologue, such as the famous ones from plays such as Hamlet, to soliloquy, to Stand-Up Comedy, to storytelling to any act of standing on a stage and speaking to entertain a crowd. "Art of the Monologue" is a great study for would be actors or comedians of any type, highly recommended.

The Art of the Monologue Monologues They Haven't Heard Yet edition by Frank Catalano Arts Photography eBooks

The monologues themselves are nothing spectacular. They're monologues we've ALL heard.

Honestly, go find yourself some Eric Bogosian or Anna Deveare-Smith for the kind of original work the above title promises.

The monologues are tame and timid. Very much in the vein of the Spoon River Anthology. Nothing shocking or innovative going on here. Just homogenized, safe, bucolic drivel.

What WORKS about this book, and the reason I bought it after reading the sample, is the way Mr. Catalano breaks monologues apart and the theory presented on how they should be broken, analyzed, and performed with honesty to engage an audience.

As a teacher, Mr. Catalano has clearly done his homework and earned his chops.

As a playwright... no one should buy this book expecting eloquence or the kind of work that makes an audience or casting director really stop and take notice.

It's worth the cost just for the presentation of acting theory. 52 PICKUP, the collection of monologues... there's a reason why its offered for performance royalty-free.
